Antioxidants are found in many foods, but mainly fruits and vegetables. They are vitamins and minerals that help protect against oxidation - a chemical reaction producing free radicals that can damage cells and impact on their function. Vitamins A, C and E and the minerals zinc and selenium have antioxidant action and contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress in a wide range of body systems, including connective tissue, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular health. Sources of antioxidants are kale, red cabbage, beetroot, spinach, raspberries and goji berries.
